Early Literacy Program

We strive to provide young children with opportunities to learn, understand, and develop creative expressions amongst and for themselves.

To many children, picture books are the first visual arts experience that they encounter. Because picture books play such a fundamental role in exposing children to literacy and visual art, we use picture books, in particular those created by young artists, to introduce art and literacy to Pre-K through elementary school students.

Presenting youth artwork for children to experience and appreciate is an integral part of the art education, as well as a powerful way to encourage generations of continual creativity.

Fluid Palette Founder Alexis Besio has been providing story times and author talks on her picture book “Shipwreck” to Pre-K through elementary school students in Rhode Island. She also works with children on drawing and visual storytelling skills.

Children have taken great joy in these fun and interactive events. They love hearing the behind-the-scenes stories about “Shipwreck” and learning to devise new creative plots with the author.

We enjoy sharing the fun of reading and creation with more children. If you would like to invite Alexis to present at a school or library, please contact us to request an appointment.
