WELCOME TO FLUID PALETTE

We have three goals:

  • Promote creativity and self-expression in children
  • Increase the society’s appreciation for youth art
  • Making art education more accessible for children.

Picasso famously said, “Every child is an artist.” Picasso took many years to learn to paint like a child. Children’s creativity is a crucial part of the diverse range of human expressions. Appreciating art made by children opens our minds to a better understanding and respect for all art, and all artists.

Our society tends to acknowledge that creating art has great educational and psychological benefits for children, so we rightly encourage children to create art for those reasons. But when it comes to the product of what they actually make, the society doesn’t often think of it as “true art”. Creations by children are treated as nothing more than keepsakes, or a temporary update for the family’s refrigerator door at best. Fluid Palette is about changing that attitude and helping society understand how to appreciate youth art in its own right.

Since 2008, more than 80% of schools nationwide have experienced cuts to their budgets. The arts are continuously the first to be diced on the chopping block. The decline of arts education has been felt most severely in low-performing, low-income schools. Children at underfunded schools consistently lack access to art and affordable art-making activities. To combat this, Fluid Palette is committed to enhancing access to art education for all children and bridging the educational gap by offering community programs.

Alexis Besio, Founder of Fluid Palette

Alexis Besio is a high school student in Rhode Island. She has had a strong interest in art ever since she was barely big enough to sit at the kitchen table. She would do everything from drawing on napkins to making clothes for her dolls. When she was eight years of old, an unexpected escape of her pet hamster led to her creation of a children’s book “Shipwreck.” By founding Fluid Palette, Alexis strives to empower and advocate for young artists. She hopes that her story and effort can touch many children, inspiring their imagination and creative expression.
